SAP consolidates existing functionalities and minimises the application stack. It also retires obsolete functionality. The chosen functionality and/or product is enhanced with new innovations to take maximum benefit of HANA platform and cloud, it re-architects the code and application. · This strategy has resulted into various types of change in existing SAP ERP as shown in the table. SAP Digital Core Release Management Strategy · SAP S/4HANA cloud follows quarterly release mechanism. · SAP S/4HANA on premise editions follow yearly release mechanism with quarterly Feature Pack Support (FPS). · Annual release includes major innovations. · Quarterly release includes minor changes and is equivalent to Support Pack (SP) upgrades. · In 2015 and 2016, S/4HANA finance was released for early adopters only with finance innovations. The customers using S/4HANA 1503 and 1605 can convert their systems to new releases. roduct editions of SAP Digital Core · SAP offers two product editions. One option is SAP S/4HANA Cloud which is a subscription based model. The second option is SAPS/4HANA deployed on-premise or on managed cloud. · The core product is same in both options. However, the deployment options, select innovations, extent of customization and front end, differs in both of them. · SAP S/4HANA Cloud is a preferred option for enterprises who can align their processes based on SAP standards. S/4HANA cloud deployments are managed based on the principle of ‘fit to standard’. · SAP S/4HANA on-premise edition can be used by customers for on-premise deployments or by partners / SAP as managed cloud. SAP also offers this edition as single tenant edition and as private edition on HEC. · In subsequent sections, we will discuss about product evolution and releases of S/4HANA Cloud and S/4HANA on-premise. · Modules three and subsequent topics are focussed on SAP S/4HANA on-premise only. This course does not provide details related to SAP S/4HANA Cloud. SAP S/4HANA Cloud Capability · SAP S/4HANA Cloud Edition is available as software-as-a-service. · The cloud editions have faster innovation adoption cycles as compared to on premise edition. · S/4HANA cloud has multiple use cases in the scenario of two tier ERP. For more information, refer SAP open SAP course: https://open.sap.com/courses/s4h9 · SAP S/4HANA cloud covers process related to multiple streams. SAP S/4HANA cloud edition also provides country localization. For example, 1909 includes localization for 36 countries. · Feature scope for S/4HANA cloud edition is available on help.sap.com. Ecosystem of SAP S/4HANA Cloud · SAP S/4HANA cloud consists of multiple SAP applications as depicted in the image. · SAP S/4HANA cloud edition has same product code as of on premise edition. However, the ability to use and configure those features may be less. · Innovations in S/4HANA cloud edition are released first and may not be available on premise edition at a particular point of time. · S/4HANA cloud edition may not include some of the classical features where an innovation is released. It is possible that the same functionality is supported till 2025 on premise edition. · Adoption of cloud editions may have challenges when standard processes cannot be adapted and requires extensive customization. Evolution of SAP S/4HANA On-premise · SAP’s strategy: ‘Run Simple’ · SAP S/4HANA is a new business suite of applications, designed to run simple in a digital and connected world, built on the advanced in-memory platform, SAP HANA®, and designed on the most modern user experience, SAP Fiori® Releases of SAP S/4HANA On-premise · In this slide, focus is on the following two products: · SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Management · SAP S/4HANA Finance · S/4HANA Enterprise Management is released with simplified finance and logistics.
